During School Hours

Students will move to the safe room to seek shelter according to posted routes. Residents that are at risk will be allowed in the safe room During a tornado warning, FEMA doors will be closed once all students are in the shelter.

Non-School Hours

Safe rooms will be unlocked when the National Weather Service issues a tornado watch and residents are welcome to enter. The safe room will remain open until the National Weather Service cancels a tornado watch or tornado warning or they expire.

  • Doors will unlock when the National Weather Service issues a tornado watch for Newton County, (McDonald County) for Goodman location.
  • Lights indicated entrances to the safe rooms.
  • FEMA safe rooms serve the Neosho School District students, team and nearby community.
  • FEMA safe rooms are under 24-hour surveillance.
  • Needs forms are available for individuals with special needs who plan to attend safe rooms during emergencies. 
  • Leashed service animals are permitted with all animal care and actions under the responsibility of the owner.
  • As human safety is top priority, household pets are not permitted.
  • Safe rooms are equipped with an emergency generator for limited electrical services.

Additional Information

Please consider that you may not have time to reach a storm shelter, therefore, it is recommended to have a backup plan. We encourage all to have a weather radio and emergency plan in place for any weather event. Information to assist with emergency planning can be found at Ready.gov.
