At the Neosho School District, we greatly value the contributions and support of our volunteers. We believe that your involvement plays a vital role in creating a positive educational experience for our students. As we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students, we adhere to Missouri State Statute 168.133, which requires background checks for public school volunteers.

According to this statute, all screened volunteers must undergo a criminal background check before being left alone with a student. The background check process includes the submission of fingerprints to the Missouri State Highway Patrol for a search of the criminal history repository. Additionally, the fingerprints are forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a search of the federal criminal history files.

The Neosho School District understands that this process involves additional steps and a fee, but please note that the criminal background check is no longer an annual requirement. Once you are in the Missouri State Highway Patrol system, the updates will be automatically received, and you will only incur a one-time fee.

Please review the guidelines regarding volunteers and visitors to clarify the distinction between the two:

Volunteer: Individuals who assist our school on an uncompensated basis and may occasionally be unsupervised while working with students fall under the category of volunteers. These individuals may volunteer to help in various areas, such as the school office or library, mentoring or tutoring students, coaching or supervising student activities, or accompanying students on field trips and overnight trips.

Visitor: Individuals who are not providing a service to the school or students fall under the category of visitors. These individuals typically visit the campus to interact with their child(ren) or attend school activities like classroom parties, lunch with students and assemblies. To enter all buildings, visitors must show identification prior to entering the building. Valid IDs are non-expired and state-issued with a photo. To save time, sign up as an Neosho School District visitor.

As a volunteer, you are an integral part of the Neosho School District community. Your dedication and support make a significant difference to our employees and, most importantly, our students. Thank you for being a valued member of our team.
